Catelynn

In this chapter Catelynn stays by Bran's side the whole time. She is watching over him in case he were to come back, wake up from his coma, or worse. She has written off all of her duties as queen and handed them over to her son Robb. In the middle of the night after the library caught fire a man comes into Bran's room and tries to kill both Catelynn and Bran, but is unsuccessful. Catelynn grabs the blade with her bare hands and then Bran's wolf devours him, Catelynn later decodes the situation discovering that the Lannisters must have been behind this and heads off to go tell her husband.

This chapter is a very important part of the book, not only because it shows some of Catelynn's character (being a mother comes first over all other duties), but also because in this chapter Catelynn's apparently great ability for discovering/decoding things comes into play. She figures out that the Lannister's are to blame for the hit man. What I liked about this chapter is that it showed a mothers instinct to protect her children no matter the conditions, I also liked that she had the guts to grab a blade with her bare hands and then on top of all the things that must be running through her mind she still has time to figure out that the Lannisters are responsible for all this. Although I completely agree with Catelynn's choice to stay by her child's side, this chapter shows that even though something tragic might be going on in your life, you can't just push off your duties and responsibilities. By doing so Catelynn allowed things to begin to fall apart, she didn't notice or care how things were being run in the castle for instance. Furthermore, other members of her family started to feel neglected as stated by Robb. To make a long story short this chapter shows us that despite difficulties you might be facing, you have to make time for the other things in your life too, because if not, things could start to get even more out of hand and you could begin pushing those that care for you away.
